| YARD SALE! |
[Jul. 17th, 2009|12:54 am] |
danger_kitty and I are having our 4th annual SuperFantastic Jumble Sale on Saturday!
Saturday 7/18 7am-1pm 501 Clark, Webster Groves
Once again, this sale is made up of our friends/parents cleaning out their closets and basements. It's a giant sale, but there is no baby/kid stuff, sorry! Other than that, I can't really answer "do you have..." questions because I haven't seen it yet.
NO EARLY BIRDS. And by this I mean showing up on Friday. Early Saturday is cool. |

| Veterinarian? |
[Jul. 14th, 2009|07:57 pm] |
I need to find a vet to get my 2 year old dog spayed and get up to date vaccinations. Any places (preferably close to U city) that you know of? I'm looking for a place that will take good care of my dogs and somewhere I can build a relationship with the staff/veterinarian. Anyplace or any veterinarian in particular you trust and have good experiences with? Also, reasonable rates and fees would be a plus. I called around and one vet wanted over $400 just for a spay... |

| Couch dissasembly or other help? |
[Jul. 14th, 2009|10:50 am] |
I bought an incredible, bright orange mid-century couch yesterday for my apartment. When we got home we could not get it in the door because the back door leads to a tiny hallway. The front door opens to a curved wall leaving not much room either. I have not yet measure the windows but I'm gonna say none of them are exactly huge or anything. So I am not sure if I can get this thing through a window either but I am going to try this weekend if I can get some help. The couch has two small angles in it so it complicates the situation.
I have a feeling the window thing is not going to work especially because the idea will make my landlord nervous.
So, is anyone awesome at this kind of thing? Or does anyone know anyone who specializes in disassembling sofas for this purpose? I know other cities have this service but I can't find anyone here in St. Louis. This couch in incredible and it needs to be in my apartment or I might just die. |

| All Star Game Red Carpet |
[Jul. 14th, 2009|09:13 am] |

The red carpet is laid out on Market Street! Who's downtown today? Are you working or just coming for the festivities? Any celebrity sightings yet?
What's your general feeling about the All Star Game/Parade? Are you excited (like I am) or is the mayhem just ruining your day? |

Does anyone here watch Hung, the new show starring Thomas Jane? He plays a high school gym teacher who becomes a male escort on the side to earn money. Last night's episode involved an AD reference. When questioned as to why he's doing what he's doing, he said "I just want my kids back." |

| A plea to all animal lovers .... |

I'm not sure if this appropriate for this forum. If not, please feel free to remove it. =)
The St. Charles Humane Society is one of only a handful of NO-KILL animal shelters in the S. Louis area, and they are desperately in need of funding/donations. Without some kind of help, they are seriously in danger of closing their doors within a few months.
While I am neither a member, nor an employee of the St. Charles Humane Society I have worked in animal rescue for the last 7 years, and it is a cause very near and dear to my heart.
It would be tragic to loose such a wonderful animal rescue group in an area that badly needs their services and influence.
Obviously they are doing their own fund raising, but I would like to do more.
I know that times are tough and everyone has had to tighten their belt, but any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone with any corporate connections, who might be able to get them to donate, would be great.
I am also looking for any type of fund raising ideas ... either something I could implement on my own, or work on as a group with other interested people.
Thank you for your time and consideration. =)

Webster Groves man killed in crash was considered a leader in local 'techno' music scene By Carolyn Tuft ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH 07/08/2009
UPDATED: 10:12 A.M. with biographical information
ST. LOUIS -- The Webster Groves man killed in a crash on Interstate 44 on Wednesday was considered a leader in the St. Louis 'techno electro' disc jockey scene.
Kyle Torretta, 32, of Webster Groves, was killed after getting off work from his day job as a computer technician in the crash along Interstate 44 that snarled traffic Wednesday evening for miles.
Police said that Torretta was driving west on Interstate 44 near Grand Avenue when he attempted to move into another lane. He then realized that another vehicle was in that lane and steered right.
Torretta then lost control of his car, left the highway, went into the grass, across the feeder road and landed upside down on Lafayette Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Torretta was married to Jennifer Weigner, an accountant. The two had been a couple for about a decade and married last year.
Torretta, who grew up in south St. Louis, graduated from DeSmet Jesuit High School. In the early 1990s, he moved to Chicago, then returned to St. Louis where he created music in nightclubs and warehouse parties in the St. Louis area.
What his fans and fellow musicians say made him a unique musician in that genre was that he did not use a computer laptop to create his music. Instead, he used drum machines and other gear to create a live production of music, said friend and fellow musician Dan Robitaille, 37, of St. Louis.
"It really set him apart from everyone else," Robitaille said Thursday morning after getting the news of Torretta's death. "It makes this all even more tragic because he was far and beyond where everyone else in our music scene was at."
Torretta was supposed to perform this Saturday at the Mercury nightclub in downtown St. Louis. The lounge is in the Cupples Station Loft Apartment complex.
"Everybody was looking forward to it," Robitaille said. "It's so sad." |

| Too long for twitter |
[Jul. 5th, 2009|11:43 pm] |
This is pretty freaky. I was looking at the pictures thinking "Hey that looks just like some buildings we drove past every day in Shanghai".
It's sort of sick, but Sarah Palin quitting her job makes me really sad. I was looking forward to the Republican circus in 2011/2012, and she was the main attraction in the freak show. Even if she does run, she'll be even less credible than before. Who will step up to fill her big floppy clown shoes? |

| Affordable Moving help? |
[Jul. 5th, 2009|09:36 pm] |
I need to move at the end of the month and it is looking like trying to wrangle up friends and family with trucks is too much of a pain in the rear and it is stressing me out. Any recommendations on movers who are affordable? I am living in an attic currently so i don't really have a whole houseworth of stuff at all. It is just one big room. I don't even have a bed room set or any heavy furniture. It will be mostly boxes and totes with a few pieces of furniture thrown in (dining room table and chairs, 2 small dressers, a stereo cabinet and a few shelves).
Any idea how much this should cost me? I have an 8 month old so I can help some but not the entire time if she gets needy. So I feel bad asking friends and family to help me again especially not knowing who will show up when.
I called Two Men and Truck and they said $124/hour on saturday or sunday and $99/hour m-f but they would not say how long it might take and that worries me because I really do not have extra money right now. It's only one load so I can't imagine it taking a long time but if the guys work slowly they get more money. :/
Suggestions? |

| FOUND DOG |
[Jul. 4th, 2009|11:24 pm] |
If anyone knows someone who lost this little guy near Morgan Ford and Gertrude/Bates, he followed us home tonight and I dropped him off after hours at the Humane Society on Macklind. He has a collar but no tags, so I hope he has a chip and finds his family!
